The race is open to both men and women of 18 years and up. Competitors must be in a very good physical shape to take part in this 55 km Ultra Marathon which under no circumstances is suitable for beginners. For those who are taking part in this marathon for the first time we recommend ultra marathon training on trails and hills and the steeper the better! The route has demanding hills that most runners walk up so it is also necessary to practice power walking.
You can form a team of three, independent of sex or age, and the combined time of all three will count as the teams result.
Participants will be assigned to different start groups based on how fast they intend to run. They can request to be assigned to the same start group as one or more of their running partners. The organizers will do their best to accommodate the wishes of all participants. In order to group two or more runners together, a request to be assigned to the same group must be received from both/all of these participants. The runners will be sent an e-mail at a later date inviting them to submit such requests.
The Race organizer reserves the right to cancel or delay the race due to change in weather. This will only apply if the race director cannot secure the safety of runners on the course because of weather conditions or other unforeseen circumstances. Each runner makes his own decision as to whether he/she takes part or not based on the information given. Weather Average temperature in July at “the Laugavegur trail” is about 7-8°C or 45-47°F. However, very bad weather can occur, so please read our information about clothing.
Disqualification Runners reaching Álftavatn more than 4 hours and Emstrur more than 6 hours after the start of the marathon will be disqualified from the race and will be driven to Hvolsvöllur and from there to Reykjavík. Those who were planning on staying in Thorsmörk after the race will be taken there. See further information in race rules.
A doctor, nurses and other assistant personnel will be located at the finish in Thorsmork to assist runners. At the main refreshment stations the race staff and people from the rescue team will assist runners. Note that participants are not provided with painkillers or band aid on the trail.
All runners who cross the finish line will receive an award. See further information here. |
